A Place For Your Dog To Sleep

by Eric Hartwell

Are you one of those people who live by the motto, ?A place for everything and everything in its place?? Does this include the place where your dog sleeps ? or are you willing to have his hair spread out all over the place, from your favorite sofa to your bed?

Aside from the problem of where your dog sleeps, you should also consider your pet?s well-being. Having a dog bed in the house will also give him a sense of security.

Finding the ?Right? Bed

It is easy to think that finding the right bed for your dog is easy ? ?small dog, small bed;? ?large dog, large bed? ? ?larger dog, larger bed.? True, as a rule of thumb ? but there are a few things to consider.

First of all, is your pet a puppy, half-grown or full grown? Choosing the right size for a full-grown dog is not a problem; but puppies and half-grown pets will be an issue down the road. If you?re willing to buy your dog a new bed every time he outgrows one, well and good. On the other hand, you may wish to consider his eventual size before buying a bed for him.

Another factor to consider is how your dog sleeps. Does he or she stretch out while sleeping? Does he curl up into a ball? The answer to this question has implications on the shape of the bed that you will buy. A dog that likes to stretch out while asleep will do well with a rectangular-shaped bed. In the same way, a dog that sleeps curled up may be happier with a circular shaped bed.

Finally, because some dogs love to gnaw things, you have to make sure that the materials used for the bed comply with health and sanitary standards. It isn?t so much for your dogs but for small children as well ? especially toddlers who are in the stage of putting everything in their mouths.
